Job Possibilities In The Area

If you have just purchased a piece of St. Catharines Ontario real estate, you may be on the lookout for a good job. The city is fairly diverse, with jobs available in a number of different areas depending on your experience, education, and skills. Let's take a look at the type of positions available in the area.

Call Centres

Overall, call centres are the largest employers in St. Catharines, due to its placement on the telecommunications backbone between the United States and Canada. Call centres offer solid employment at good wages, and the better an employee can perform the more money he or she can make. The centres operate by gaining contracts from major companies (they may get one from a company which offers a certain kind of acne treatment or a credit card company, for example) and questions concerning the products over the phone are routed through the centre.

School Board

As with other place in Canada, the education system is a major employer in the city of St. Catharines. Ontario's teachers are among the highest paid in the country, and the other positions within the system are unionized and pay well. Positions range from specialty positions in large schools (instructing students in the use of CRYPTOcard data) to general teaching.

Manufacturing

Industry and manufacturing have always been main stays of the St. Catharines economy. General Motors has two plants in the area, as do TRW and Foster-Wheeler. As the fortunes of these companies continues to wane, however, executive recruitment firms have begun to look at transferring the best employees to other centres on the continent.

Hospitality

As anybody who runs wedding facilities in Oakville can tell you, St. Catharines is a very important destination for honeymooners and other tourists. Thus, the hospitality industry has always been traditionally strong. In fact, while other cities in Canada were experiencing negative job growth in this industry, St. Catharines continued to grow in this area of employment.

Construction

As more jobs are created in the area, more people want to purchase real estate. That's good news for anyone in the construction industry, another area which has experienced significant job growth in St Catharines over the last couple of years.

And of course, construction related jobs are available as well. You might be interesting in staring your own company landscaping the Niagara Falls area, or supplying equipment to developers. Either way, there is potential right here in the city of St. Catharines.
